I like surreal books This book definitely is surreal and introspective 1 5th of the way in I had to stop None of the characters seemed anything but pathetic Like watching the Debbie Downer sketches on Saturday Night Live except all the characters were downers Without empathizing with the people in the book, I lost interest

This book and its narrator were so strange, I felt a bit unmoored while reading it I had no idea what was going to happen from moment to moment Yet throughout, I was drawn in, and I found myself connecting with things about this narrator even as I was confused, even repulsed by him The feeling throughout of being aware of racism
